Personalization: This manuscript contains five portraits of an original male owner, perhaps Jean III de Bethune (c. 1450-1511). The owner is pictured with St. John the Evangelist, and St. John is the first saint in a series of suffrages, indicating that perhaps the owner’s name was John or Jean. Later, however, the owner is also represented with St. Peter. In the lower margin below each miniature in the manuscript is a crowned shield bearing the arms of one of the families related to the Bethune family, and the arms for the Bethune family appear on folios 242r and 249v. Prayers are formulated for a masculine suppliant.
