Personalization: Made for Emperor Charles V (1500-1558). The imperial arms of Austria are on f. 3r. The manuscript was subsequently owned by Martin de Gaztelu (secretary of Charles V and secretary of Philip II of Spain) and his wife Leonor de Eça, based on an inscription added on f. 1r. A pen drawing of St. Joseph was added c. 1575 by a Spanish artist. Owner portraits of Charles V appear on ff. 56r and 279v. Portraits of Philip II of Spain and Eleanor Hapsburg appear on ff. 254v and 256v respectively.
